  1. Thanks for sharing everything with your avid readers. You truly have a talent for writing.

Very sorry to hear about your friend Will passing and you having a very tough year.

I hope 2016 treats you and Keith better. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I have to get out to Virginia and Washington DC out of these days and visit. Take care.

  2. Alan,

I am so sorry that things have been so difficult. This is a very nice way to share it (I would like to copy it next year with your help), but it would be nicer to see you in person (maybe on your way home from your day job). Here is hoping that this year will be MUCH better.

    Best wishes,
    Warren and Ito

  3. Alan (and Keith) –
Let’s just KNOW 2016 is going to be a great year after the bumps of 2015! Thanks for your candid and “real” sharing of your experiences from the year. By doing so you inspire us all as nobody is exempt from challenges. Without them we would have little to live for if not to rise above. I am thinking of you with much love and claiming abundance will wash over every aspect of your life in a prosperous and healthy 2016. Sorry to hear of Will’s passing. I never knew him well but recall meeting him many years ago when we were all much younger and invincible. Let go of the frustration and strife and fill your mind and thoughts and heart with life. It is always the smarter and more fun of choices. – Doug (and Gregg) in Atlanta XOXO

  4. Alan,

So pleased to here all your news although not happy about the bad news. Now that you are spending some time in DC let’s plan on trying to get together for a drink in the neighborhood to catch up on old times. Happy New year to you and Keith. This will be a better year for all of us I hope.

All the best from Fadia and me.

  5. Alan– Thanks for sharing your annual letter over all these many years we’ve known each other. I’m sorry to hear about your tough year, and particularly sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I hope 2016 is better for you. Hang in there. Best, Bob Sanborn

  6. Dear Alan,
Month-by-month, I found myself rooting for you, thinking, “it must get better.” But of course this is real life, when there are no guarantees. Yet you have Keith in your life, a loving family, and loyal friends. As you wrote following Will’s death, you’re still in the game. I’m reading a book by Ta-Nehisi Coates where he describes “this terrible and beautiful world.” Even when your words described an annus horribilus, your photos showed us spectacular beauty. I hope hope hope this run of bad luck will end and you can hold onto the farm. Yet whatever happens, I know you have the wisdom and perspective — and wonderful people around you — to keep making life rich and textured and meaningful. Thinking of you.
Love, Ted, Clayton, Tabo and Lucy

  7. Alan,
You have put your dreams into actions. Not many can say that.
Everyone faces difficulties in life, but it’s the reaction to those difficulties that this the measure of the man. You have/are facing life’s challenges with determination, not resignation.
Annette and I will keep you in our prayers.
    Cousin Bob

  8. Alan,

Thank you for sharing. It was great catching up this way and love your sense of humor along the way. As Betty Davis said, getting older ain’t for sissy’s. I never understood until I got older. Your honesty is appreciated, I hope that this is a better year and that I get a chance to see you.

    Best,
    Todd
